To say Emily was an amazing person is an understatement. Emily lit up every room she entered and quite simply, she was the best. Emily was the type of person we should all aspire to be. She was compassionate, kind, fun-loving, yet at the same time managed to be a fierce competitor. It was impossible to be around her and not have a smile on your face. Emily was truly an inspiration to all who surrounded her. If you were lucky enough to have Emily as a counselor, co-counselor, cabin mate, teammate, or friend then you know exactly what I am talking about. There are only a few people as good as Emily that come along in a lifetime and we, at Running Works, can all attest to that. Emily was introduced to our Running Works Family through her former Monmouth University Coach, Chris Tarello. While at Monmouth, Emily brought the women’s team to new heights with her success as a middle distance runner. Through her work ethic, determination, and passion, Emily developed from a 2:21 high school athlete into a 2:10 collegiate half miler. It was her 2:10 that paved the way for the others who came after her to reach new heights. After college, Emily went back to Connecticut where she continued her passion for running becoming the head cross country coach for four years at the University of St. Joseph while earning her Master’s Degree in counseling. She then served as a school counselor at Voluntown Elementary School in her hometown of Glastonbury, CT. Emily shared her expertise with our high school athletes during the summers and was the best role model we could have imagined for our Running Works Community.
